At the SE corner of Semaphore and Military Roads, there was a funky little building that said "Lorpen TV" across the top. It housed some of Semaphore's more charming shops, like an all natural grocer, and a hippie gift shop. Unfortunately, the building was torn down, and replaced by a cheap, white, ugly, "big-box" brand.
After the Lorpen TV building was torn down, and before the ugly white box went up, you could see a wonderful view of two of Semaphore's best heritage buildings. The Baptist Church and St. Bede's. Nothing but bluestone walls and heritage features. Imagine if, instead of putting an ugly white cube here, the local council had built a garden with benches... In Semaphore? Dream on.
As the big white box was being built, the view from this bit of Semaphore Road was obliterated, specifically the water tower.
Let's hope the destruction of Semaphore's more charming buildings and features has come to an end... otherwise the whole place is going to look like a Westfield mall plaza.
