Once upon a time, there was a beautiful, charming antique furniture shop on Semaphore Road. This shop was so special, so good looking, so "iconic", it was the archetype of what we think of, when we think of "Semaphore Road heritage charm"... Thanks to Kate Smith, this aspect of Semaphore road is quickly being destroyed, relegated to the memory of bloggers like us.
What is even harder to believe, is that the council, aka The City of Port Adelaide Enfield, uses Acworth's Furniture shop as a model for how to maintain heritage features, in their "Heritage Conservation Guidelines". It is obvious to the casual observer that neither City of PAE, nor Kate Smith, intend to conserve the heritage buildings on Semaphore Road. Take a look at what she's done to lovely old Acworth's. Gone are the earth-tones and vintage lettering, gone is the beautiful antiques in the 1950s glass front windows, gone is the beautiful hardwood flooring. All having been replaced by some Rundle Mall style yuppie nightmare, replete with NEON... ugh.
