Some Natural History, Part 1 ... Semaphore Beach stuff

We have been walking the Semaphore Beach for six years now, and we have seen many interesting things washed up there.
Semaphore Beach
Apparently this is the claw of the aptly named blue claw crab.
Semaphore Beach
This is one of the stranger looking things we've seen... apparently these are compound ascidians, which are made up of very small animals (zooids) living together in a jelly-like matrix.
Semaphore Beach
This is also one of the strangest... apparently it is a cluster of calamari eggs.
Semaphore Beach
This is some kind of stingray, apparently there are many species common to South Australia.
Semaphore Beach
This is some type of puffer fish. Apparently poisonous.
Semaphore Beach
If you become a Semaphore Beach comber, you will see a lot of brightly colored red seaweed.
Semaphore Beach
You may also encounter a lot of tubular sponge-like thingies.
Semaphore Beach
There will be a lot of crabs and crab shells.
Semaphore Beach
This is a "coffin ray", so named because its electric shock can kill someone.
Semaphore Beach
Of course there are heaps of shells.
Semaphore Beach
This jellyfish was the size of a dinner plate.
moon jellies
As you can see, all kinds of beautiful things wash up on Semaphore Beach!
